Stupid is as stupid does

Today on Facebook I saw a meme about the folks who work at those parking lot fairs. I love them so, and since the guy who wrote it was being a big punk about their particular strengths, I wanted to come on my super blog and cheer them on. Y'all c'mon.

He said a couple of real nasty things, but one of them struck me as particularly stupid, so that's what this rant is about. He may have said the food was undercooked and they're meth heads also, but what really over-cooked my goose was when he had the gall to say "these guys are operating machinery when they dropped out of 10th grade."

I have an anecdote for starters. I too dropped out of highschool in 10th grade. But I went straight to work. I worked in a Waffle House and a Blimpie, and two frozen yogurt stores. Well, in the second frozen yogurt store there was a little Chinese man who owned it and the Subway next door. I never will forget working there. I got sandwiches, and yogurt, for free. But also, a real fascinating life lesson.

One day the little old man decided the time had come to clean and lubricate the machines. So he took me to the back and quickly took the machine apart and cleaned and sanitized, lubed and put the whole thing back together while I watched. He left me with instructions to perform the same tasks on the two remaining machines.

I hated that man so much after that, even free sandwiches meant nothing! No I'm kidding, I took my last paycheck on a trip to L.A.

If this were an all too colorful early 2000s movie, I'd turn to the audience and say, "Why did Ms. Mary have a hard time operating the machinery that afternoon and not on any other afternoon?"

And not a single person would say because she was 16. No, they wouldn't. And they wouldn't say it was because I was stupid, either. The truth is, any single person who is taught how to take apart a piece of machinery and put it back together after watching it performed one time by a little old Chinese man who left her to do it on her own without helping is sure to have some difficulties. At least I think so.

So you see, it isn't smart to say that, oh I don't know, a 40-year-old man, (probably not addicted to meth because those people steal), doesn't have the mental capacity to operate machinery. He didn't even necessarily put the thing together!!!!

I was laughing about the dum, dum dummmmm "dropout".

"You died that day!"

"Your life is OVER"

It may interest people to know that successful people sort of skip college who recognize that they are already on the road to success. And I often have said it takes a highschool diploma, because I got my bachelor's degree and it amounts to nada.

But for a person to be a danger to his fellow man it takes more than leaving school at 16.
